1st to-work on the W&OD trail!! It’s 15 miles one way which is a fine ride per se, but too much time biking for daily commute with family/work responsibilities. So my usual is a combined bike/bus which is great. I’d intended to do the W&OD every once in a while, though ... but after four months on the job still had not. It made more sense somehow to take it on the way home ... but every day I’m fully engaged in lots-to-do, which plus home-for-dinner equals not-today.

However ... a co-worker pointed out that the elevation profile is a net downhill on the way out ... so an easier ride is in the morning ... and then I’m not fully engaged in the workday yet ... there’s an open slot in my calendar every Monday so I think this will be my Monday-morning thing, weather permitting.

Just really gorgeous — trees turning color and just a little cool in the air. Adds 40 minutes my commute — a small price to pay. :)

The commute here in NovA has stabilized & I’ve been enjoying it for a few months now: 1/2 mile bike, 12 miles or so express bus / bike-rack down the freeway; 1 1/2 mile bike at the other end. Total four miles per day; not very much really. But I’m always doing it five days per week, and I work it on the hills: getting some muscle burn & some hard breathing ten times a week, not really too bad at all in the scheme of things. I do need to run at least a bit now & then though ... .

S & I got a Burley Bee pull-behind trailer for the little one — surprisingly easy to pull, and makes for some VERY nice family weekend rides. O at first hated the helmet but now seems to dig being a big kid — in her own ride, seat buckles; and sunglasses and helmet just like Mommy & Daddy. :)

Mastery in life is achieved by developing a process of constant and rapid correction, rather than the illusory goal of freedom from error; accomplished musicians, aviators and athletes know this.
